Designated Agencies

Agencies that are authorized and obligated to use the tools in the Adult Guardianship Act are designated by the BC Public Guardian and Trustee by Order in Council.

Designated agencies include Providence Health Care,  Community Living BC and the five Regional Health Authorities (Fraser Health, Island Health, Northern Health, Interior Health and Vancouver Coastal Health).

PGT, the police, First Nations Health Authority, and Provincial Health Services Association have a role but are not “designated” under the act.

VCH’s Adult Protection Policy: Abuse, Neglect or Self-Neglect of Vulnerable Adults and the VCH Adult Protection Framework 3.1 defines roles, responsibilities, educational and organizational supports to ensure that all suspected situations of abuse, neglect and self-neglect are received and investigated appropriately.
