Adult Guardianship Act (Part 3)

Part 3 of the Adult Guardianship Act provides a mandate for Designated Agencies to respond to situations concerning adults who are

  1. abused, neglected, and self-neglected and
  2. unable to seek support and assistance due to:

Example: An adult child tied her mother’s legs to the bed posts after a stroke to “help her straighten and strengthen her legs so that she can walk again”.

Example: A caregiver hid the battery of the electric wheelchair from an adult with mobility problem when he did not do what she said, leaving him unable to seek help.

Example: An adult with acquired brain injury is out of food and three months behind with her rent as she is not able to keep track of how much money she is giving her son to pay his gambling debts.
